This is an article about Nellie McKay. You should all--yes, you, don't think I can't see you trying to sneak out--go buy her CD: it's insanely great.
wow. she may be all that, but she sure is a cocky nutball.

So was Madonna. Sometimes it helps.
...but it doesn't make them any more appealing.

It may not make them any more appealing...
But it does make me want to hit them with a shovel.
Re: It may not make them any more appealing...
As someone else I'd like to hit with a shovel once sang in a voice that grates on my nerves (in the sense that I think I'd rather hit a raw nerve with a cheese grater than listen to her):
I'm with you.

She's 19, she's not being cocky, she's desperately trying not to be insecure.
That may be true. I've known some damn cocky 19-year-olds. And I actually think that almost anybody who's cocky is probably insecure.
That doesn't make them any less cocky-sounding, which is really the issue for those of us repelled by that sort of thing...

Thanks to Heather, who read about her in Paste magazine, and Tish, who heard you play the album at G-Mart, I was intrigued. Then I saw the 2-disc set used at Reckless Records for $7.99 and not long after, I was grooving to her alternately goofy and brilliant words & music. Pretty damn accomplished for a 19-year old.
