mercy noun: A weakness of character that manifests as ignoring what one knows to be the right course of action in favor of actions that make life better for another party.
It's worth pointing out that this point is not made in any political context, but in a personal one. Unless greatly pressed, I shall offer no further details, as the circumstances involved would make me look very bad indeed.

I press you greatly. But you can send me an email if you don't want to go into it here.
Not even a hypothetical? Or a hint? What's going on, my friend?
I've already pressed, to no avail. What's the deal?
Fascinating definition. Never thought of mercy as "a weakness of character" before. Hmm.
I used intentionally provocative language because...well, because I was pissed off. Somewhat at someone else, but mostly at me. I did something that most would view as an act of mercy but I viewed as, well, a weakness of my character. Boring specifics available on the Director's Cut DVD of this post.
Ah. I suspect I get the general idea, even without the specifics.
I hate moments like that-- I always end up feeling like a doormat.
