I'm not telling what happened yesterday. If you're really interested, contact me.
Today was dull and hungry-not much eating, not much doing.
Saw "Heist", directed by David Mamet and "Spy Game", directed by Tony Scott. "Heist" is fairly sharp, well written, but the double/triple/quadruple-crosses got a little too predictable by the end. Hackman, Lindo, DeVito, and Ricky Jay all acquit themselves well, but…I dunno. It almost felt lethargic at times. Though "Don't you want to hear my last words?" "I just did." Will go one the list of best bits of dialogue for 2001.
"Spy Game" is fairly interesting, though slow in spots as well. Pitt gets beaten up far worse here than anything in "Fight Club". Redford does good work, as can be expected of him, but there are a couple of script/motivational holes (i.e., it's not clear why certain characters are doing what they're doing). I think, for the most part, both can wait to be rented.
For those of you who are entered in the (still-ongoing) John's Movie Pool, "Spy Game" marked #90 on the year for me. If you're interested in entering, guess how many movies I will see in theatres in the year 2001. Person who comes closest wins a still-undetermined prize. Mail your entry to email@example.com by my birthday to be eligible.
